Purple Turtle Fiji, a PADI 5 star dive operator based on Matamanoa Island, offer a full range of diving experiences catering from complete beginners to advanced divers. All dives are guided by PADI professionals who have extensive knowledge of the dive sites and surrounding area

Scuba divers from all accredited agencies are accepted upon proof of certification by way of verified log book or Certification Card. If you have not dived within six months of your planned start date you will be required to complete a complementary refresher session
Two guided dives are available daily at 08:30am and 11:00am and night dives are available on request (minimum of 2 people)
PADI® Dive Courses
ReActivate is the engaging, efficient way to refresh your scuba skills. Move quickly through topics you know well, dive deeper on topics where your knowledge may have lapsed
Independent Study:
Fitting the ReActivate refresher course into your busy lifestyle is easy with online PADI eLearning. In your own time, use a computer or mobile device to watch videos on how to perform basic scuba skills and review dive planning and safety procedures – (eLearning time commitment: 2-3 hours)
At Matamanoa Island Resort:
You will complete an in-water session where you will practice setting up the dive gear, reviewing any scuba skills you may have forgotten as well as learn new skills which have been introduced over the years (Duration: 1-3 hours)
Prerequisites:
- Scuba Diver certification or proof of an entry-level certification with four training dives, such as Open Water Diver
- Be in good physical health, guests wishing to participate in a PADI dive course must be fit for diving according to the RSTC PADI Medical Statement
Cost:
- The eLearning component is provided by PADI on their website and is charged in Australian dollars. The rate is listed on the PADI website and you can register here
- In addition to eLearning, you pay the following rate to Deep Blue/Matamanoa for your in-water session with a PADI professional:
- April 24 to March 25 – $135 FJD per person
- April 25 to March 26 – $150 FJD per person
If you want to try Scuba Diving but are not ready to commit to a full course, Discover Scuba Diving is for you! While not a scuba certification course, Discover Scuba Diving is a quick and easy introduction to the underwater world, you will learn the basic safety guidelines and skills needed to dive under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional, you will then practice those skills in the pool before embarking on your first ocean dive (up to 12 meters).
Prerequisites:
There are no prerequisites or prior experience with scuba diving necessary however you need to be in reasonable physical health as per PADI’s RSTC Medical Statement
Cost:
- April 24 to March 25 – $325 per person / $555 Couples Special (includes one pool session and one ocean dive)
- April 25 to March 26 – $350 per person / $595 Couples Special (includes one pool session and one ocean dive)
PADI® Open Water Diver is the first scuba certification level. By the end of the course, you will have the skills and knowledge to dive at home or abroad with the world’s most recognised scuba certification
What you will learn:
The PADI® Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:
- Knowledge development (either online, independent study or in a classroom) to understand the basic principles of scuba diving
- 5 Confined water dives to learn the basic scuba skills
- 4 Open water dives to use your skills and explore
PADI Open Water Divers are qualified to:
- Dive to 18m in a buddy team
Inclusions:

- Wetsuit (if required)

Duration:
- Approximately 4 days
Prerequisites:
- Adequate swimming skills
- Sound physical health, guests wishing to participate in a PADI dive course must be fit for diving according to the RSTC PADI Medical Statement

- April 24 to March 25 – $1,160 FJD per person (couples special only $1,600 FJD per couple)
- April 25 to March 26 – $1,250 FJD per person (couples special only $2,000 FJD per couple)

PADI® Advanced Open Water Diver follows on from PADI® Open Water Diver and expands your scuba skills through different Adventure Dives. You will plan your learning path alongside your instructor by choosing from an extensive list of Adventure Dives. There are two required dives, Deep Diving and Underwater Navigation, and you choose the remaining three, making a total of five dives.
During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.
The knowledge and skills you gain from the three remaining Adventure Dives will vary according to your interests and the adventures you have: Underwater Photography, Buoyancy Control, Fish Identification and Exploring Wrecks are just a few of the many Adventure Dives on offer.
PADI Advanced Open Water Divers are qualified to:
- Dive to 30 meters in a buddy team
- Obtain air fills, rent or purchase scuba equipment and participate in dive activities as long as properly supervised

- Certification
Duration:
- Approximately 2-3 days

Learn to prevent and manage problems in the water and become more confident in your skills as a diver, knowing that you can help others if needed. During the course, you learn to become a better buddy by practicing problem solving skills until they become second nature.Â
What you will learn:
PADI® Rescue Diver prepares you to deal with both minor and major dive emergencies using a variety of techniques. Through knowledge development and rescue exercises, you learn what to look for and how to respond. Topics include:
- Self rescue
- Recognising and managing stress in other divers
- Emergency management and equipment
- Rescuing panicked divers
- Rescuing unresponsive divers
PADI Rescue Divers are qualified to:
- Dive up to 30 meters in a buddy team
- Obtain air fills, rent or purchase scuba equipment and participate in dive activities as long as properly supervised
Inclusions:

- Certification
Duration:
- Approximately 2-3 days
Dives:
- 10 Rescue exercises
- 2 Rescue scenarios in open water
Prerequisites:
- PADI® Adventure Diver (must have completed the Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive)
- Emergency First Responder Primary & Secondary within 2 years ($395 FJD Approximately 1-2 days)
- Sound physical health, guests wishing to participate in a PADI dive course must be fit for diving according to the RSTC PADI Medical StatementÂ

Complete 5 specialty courses, the PADI® Rescue Diver course and log a minimum of 50 dives and you can apply to receive the PADI® Master Scuba Diver rating – PADI’s highest non professional certification level!
PADI® Divemaster is your first level of professional training. Working closely with a PADI Instructor, you will fine-tune your dive and rescue skills to anticipate and easily solve common problems. You will gain dive knowledge, management and supervision abilities to become a role model to divers everywhere. As a PADI Divemaster, you will lead others as you supervise scuba diving activities and assist with diver training.
What you will learn:
PADI® Divemaster teaches you to lead dive activities through knowledge development sessions, water skill exercises, workshops, and hands-on practical assessment. Topics and practical workshops include:
- The role and characteristics of the PADI Divemaster
- Supervising dive activities and assisting with student divers
- Diver safety and risk management
- Divemaster conducted programs and specialized skills
- Business of diving and your career
- Awareness of the dive environment
- Dive setup and management
- Mapping an open water site
- Conducting dive briefings
- Organising a search and recovery project and a deep dive
- Conducting a scuba review and skin diver course
- Assisting with Discover Scuba Diving and leading Discover Local Diving programs
Your instructor may also offer the PADI® Deep Diver and Search and Recovery Diver courses along with your divemaster training to help you meet all requirements and to broaden your abilities.

- Work as a dive professional
- Guide qualified divers
- Assist Instructors on PADI courses
- Dive to 40m in a buddy team
